Tara Bosch is a Canadian entrepreneur and the founder of SmartSweets, a company recognized for disrupting the confectionery industry by offering low-sugar candy alternatives. Without a formal background in food science, Bosch taught herself through online research, scientific journals, and extensive trial and error. SmartSweets experienced rapid growth, with sales reaching $2 million in the first year, $16 million in the second, $60 million in the third, and $125 million in the fourth.
Bosch appeared on the Canadian television series "Dragon's Den," where she successfully pitched SmartSweets and received a favorable investment offer. The brand expanded into U.S. retail, securing a partnership with Whole Foods and achieving nationwide distribution. SmartSweets became the leading low-sugar candy brand in North America, available in 130,000 stores and contributing to a significant reduction in sugar consumption among consumers. The company was acquired by TPG Growth for $360 million, establishing Bosch as a prominent figure in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry.
Bosch also built a women-led organization, with over 80 percent of employees being women and all team members receiving equity. SmartSweets is recognized as one of the fastest-growing CPG brands founded by a solo female entrepreneur in North America.
