T.J. Holmes Biography
T.J. Holmes is a journalist and television personality whose career spans more than two decades across major news networks. Holmes holds a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Arkansas. He began his television career at KSNF in Joplin, Missouri, then moved to KTHV in Little Rock, Arkansas, as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor, and later joined KNTV in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he anchored the 5 p.m. evening news. At KNTV, Holmes covered national events including the Olympics in Athens, the California gubernatorial recall election, and the Scott Peterson murder trial.
Holmes gained national recognition after joining CNN, where he co-anchored "CNN Saturday & Sunday Morning" before anchoring the newscast solo. During his tenure at CNN, Holmes reported on major events such as the aftermath of the Virginia Tech shootings, the anniversary of 9/11 from Ground Zero, tornadoes in Joplin, the papal visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United States, and the Hudson River crash landing of US Airways Flight 1549. His reporting contributed to CNN's coverage of the Gulf Oil Spill and presidential primary campaigns, which earned the network Peabody Awards.
Holmes later hosted the late-night talk show "DON'T SLEEP!" on BET, which focused on African-American issues and earned an NAACP Image Award nomination. He also served as a correspondent and anchor for ABC News, becoming the permanent co-anchor of "World News Now" and later co-anchoring "GMA3: What You Need to Know." Holmes was named to The Root 100 List of Most Influential Black Americans.
In addition to his broadcast journalism work, Holmes has served on the chancellor's board of advisors at the University of Arkansas and the board of visitors at Emory University in Atlanta. He is a member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the National Association of Black Journalists. Holmes transitioned into podcasting, co-hosting the "Amy & T.J." podcast with Amy Robach for iHeartMedia. The podcast expanded to include the daily news, entertainment, and lifestyle show "Morning Run." Holmes continues to contribute to public discourse through his work in television, digital media, and podcasting, maintaining a focus on news, current events, and storytelling.
