Sam Champion Biography
Sam Champion is a renowned weather anchor best known for his work on ABC's "Good Morning America" and the Weather Channel. Champion developed an early interest in meteorology. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast news and began his career at WPSD-TV in Paducah. He then stinted at WJKS (now WCWJ) in Jacksonville, Florida, and WABC-TV in New York City, where he spent 18 years as the lead weather anchor. Throughout his career, Champion has received several awards, including multiple Emmy Awards for his weather coverage.
Champion's national prominence soared when he joined "Good Morning America" in 2006, becoming a household name for his engaging and informative weather reports. In 2012, he expanded his role in meteorology by joining the Weather Channel to host "AMHQ: America’s Morning Headquarters" and "23.5 Degrees with Sam Champion," which featured discussions on climate and environmental issues. His work not only covered daily weather forecasts but also significant climate events and natural disasters, helping to educate the public on these critical topics.
In addition to his broadcasting achievements, Champion has been involved in various environmental and climate-related causes. He has participated in numerous public speaking events, advocating for sustainable practices and climate awareness. Formerly the Grand Marshal of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Fall Bike Tour, Champion also served as the chairman of the 25th annual March of Dimes NYC WalkAmerica and master of ceremonies of "Stopping AIDS Together." Champion became the first cohost of a network morning program to announce he is gay and married his partner Rubern Robierb.
