Ronald A. Heifetz Biography
Ronald A. Heifetz is a pioneering leadership scholar best known for developing the concept of adaptive leadership. He serves as the King Hussein bin Talal Senior Lecturer in Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School, where he also founded the Center for Public Leadership. Through his teaching and research, Heifetz has shaped the study and practice of leadership worldwide.
He is also co-founder of Cambridge Leadership Associates (now part of Korn Ferry), extending his work beyond academia to advise governments, nonprofits, and corporations. With longtime collaborator Marty Linsky, he coauthored "Leadership on the Line: Staying Alive through the Dangers of Leading," which explores the personal risks leaders face when driving change. He later coauthored "The Practice of Adaptive Leadership: Tools and Tactics for Changing Your Organization," providing practical guidance for mobilizing people to tackle complex challenges. A frequent contributor to publications such as Harvard Business Review and The New York Times, Heifetz writes on leading amid crisis, uncertainty, and systemic change. Beyond his academic career, Heifetz is a classically trained cellist who studied with renowned musician Gregor Piatigorsky—an experience that informs his view of leadership as both disciplined practice and artful performance.
