As a clinical laboratory scientist, I learned various aspects of diagnosing patient disease. Through the work of clinical laboratory scientists, many patient-facing healthcare workers are better able to assist our patients. With such important tasks as evaluating blood chemistries for cardiovascular disease, evaluating diabetes risks, detecting abnormalities in blood cells that are indicative of cancer and tumors, and more, why does there seem to be less advocacy for these workers? I'd like to take a deep dive into scenarios of clinical laboratory worker burnout, challenges within the field, and what we could do to educate our future workforce to prevent a shortage of these professionals.
