As a kid, Baxter had a million questions about the world, and science seemed like the most fun way to get answers. That feeling never left her.
Baxter worked in drug discovery, finding potential treatments for diseases like dementia and cancer. Then she watched the country falling out with science and wanted to do something about it. She chose education. Baxter took science to socials in 2016 and earned a Ph.D. examining how messenger credibility, message design, and cultural context shape public trust in science.
These days, Baxter creates science content full time as Dr. Raven the Science Maven, bringing the molecules behind everyday life, from the caffeine in your coffee to the melanin in your skin, to a combined following of more than 650,000 and a reach in the tens of millions.
Buffalo born and raised, Baxter earned her B.A. and M.A. at SUNY Buffalo State and her Ph.D. at the University at Buffalo, then came home to deliver Buffalo State’s commencement address.
