Philippe Cousteau Biography
Inspired by the legacy of his grandfather Jacques Cousteau, Philippe Cousteau is a multi-Emmy-nominated television host and producer, author, speaker, and social entrepreneur specializing in ocean conservation and environmental education. Cousteau serves as the host and executive producer of the multi-Emmy-nominated weekly syndicated series "Awesome Planet." As a special correspondent for CNN, he has hosted several award-winning shows, including the series "Going Green" and the eight-part special "Expedition Sumatra." Cousteau has also hosted and produced television programs for Animal Planet and the eight-part series "Oceans" for BBC and Discovery Channel.
Cousteau and his wife, Ashlan Cousteau, starred in The Travel Channel series "Caribbean Pirate Treasure," which received a Cynopsis Media Award for Best Adventure Reality Series. Together, they co-hosted "Nuclear Sharks" for Discovery's Shark Week and a three-part series with Takepart focused on tiger and rhino conservation in Nepal, titled "Treasures of the Terai."
Cousteau's conservation efforts address global social and environmental challenges. He founded EarthEcho International, an environmental education organization that has engaged more than 2 million youth in 146 countries in ocean restoration and protection initiatives.
As an author, Cousteau wrote the children's book "Follow the Moon Home," which was selected for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List. He co-authored "Going Blue" and "Make a Splash," both recipients of multiple awards. His book series "The Endangereds" and the reference book "Oceans for Dummies," co-authored with Ashlan Cousteau, further contribute to environmental literacy and ocean advocacy.
Cousteau is a frequent speaker, having hosted and delivered keynote addresses for the United Nations, Harvard University, University of Florida, Society of Environmental Journalists, The Economist global summit, and various corporate and international conferences. He has testified before Congress and serves on the National Council of World Wildlife Fund, the Board of Antarctica 2020, the Board of Directors of Green 2.0, and the Board of Advisors of Environmental Media Association.
