Penn and Teller Biography

Penn & Teller call themselves "a couple of eccentric guys who have learned how to do a few cool things." Since first teaming up in 1975, when they combined Teller's silent, occasionally creepy, magic with Penn's clown college education and juggling expertise, the two have created an entertainment success story that went from the streets to small clubs to national theater tours, to their own multi-year show in Vegas.

After 35 years with sold-out runs on Broadway, world tours, Emmy-winning TV specials and hundreds of outrageous appearances on everything from Letterman to Leno, Friends to the Simpsons, Chelsea Lately to Top Chef, the duo show no signs of slowing down.

With an amazing five wins as "Las Vegas Magicians of the Year," their almost 10-year run in Las Vegas makes them one of the longest running and most beloved shows in Vegas history, outselling every other resident magician on The Strip.

Their acclaimed Showtime series, Penn & Teller: BS! is the network's longest-running series, and has received 13 Emmy nominations. On the show, Penn & Teller deliver a high-octane, weird, wacky, entertaining journey through some bizarre territory that no one else is brave enough to touch. Confirmed skeptics, these magicians are big fans of the art of debunking. Subjects of their popular series have ranged from alien abduction, alternative medicine, ESP, the War on Drugs, and organic food, to animal rights, gun control and bottled water.

Penn & Teller have also written three best-selling books, Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends, How to Play with Your Food, and How to Play in Traffic; and penned pieces in outlets ranging from The New York Times to Playboy.

Their understanding of magic and their ability to relate to audiences has also gotten them serious academic attention. They serve as Visiting Scholars at MIT, that school's highest honor, and have lectured at Oxford University and the Smithsonian Institution. In 2001, they received the Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award and were recently named two of the funniest people alive in Entertainment Weekly's 50 Greatest Comedians Today issue. This year, Penn will get to show off a new set of skills as a contestant on the newest season of "Celebrity Apprentice."

They redefined the genre of magic and invented their own very distinct niche in comedy, becoming cultural icons in the process.
