Colin Jost Biography
Colin Jost is a comedian, writer, and actor known for his work in late-night television and political satire. Jost joined Saturday Night Live as one of its youngest writers, contributing to the show's comedic direction. A graduate of Harvard University, he served as president of the Harvard Lampoon before beginning his career in television comedy writing.
Jost spent several years as a writer and later as co-head writer for Saturday Night Live, eventually becoming the third consecutive head writer to anchor "Weekend Update." His on-screen presence on "Weekend Update" is marked by a self-deprecating style and commentary on American politics and pop culture. Jost co-hosted special editions of "Weekend Update" on MSNBC during the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and anchored the "Weekend Update Summer Edition." Alongside Michael Che, he co-hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards.
In addition to his work on Saturday Night Live, Jost wrote and starred in the film "Staten Island Summer," inspired by his experiences as a lifeguard. He authored the memoir "A Very Punchable Face," which appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List. Jost and Che also executive produced and co-hosted "Colin Jost and Michael Che Present: New York After Dark" on Peacock, featuring performances from stand-up comedians.
Jost received a Sports Emmy Award for his work as an NBC Sports correspondent covering the surfing competition at the Summer Olympic Games in Tahiti. He hosted the White House Correspondents' Association dinner and debuted as the host of "Pop Culture Jeopardy!" for Amazon Prime Video, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Host for a Game Show. He continued as host when the show moved to Netflix, overseeing a new team format.
Jost's career on Saturday Night Live has spanned nearly two decades, earning multiple Emmy nominations, Writers Guild Awards, and Peabody Awards. He received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the College of Staten Island, CUNY, in recognition of his contributions to comedy, television, and community service. Jost remains active as a touring stand-up comedian, performing for audiences nationwide and maintaining a significant presence in American comedy and television.
