Nick Mohammed Biography

Nick Mohammed is a British actor, comedian, and writer whose career spans stage, screen, and radio. After graduating from Durham University, Mohammed began studying for a PhD in seismology at Cambridge but left to pursue comedy after successfully auditioning for the Cambridge Footlights. He appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe, where a BBC producer offered him radio work, marking a pivotal moment in his career. From ages 16 to 30, Mohammed also worked as a close-up magician for hotels and weddings and is known for his stage character Mr. Swallow, a magician developed during his time in the Cambridge Footlights. Mohammed is set to adapt his "Young Magicians" children's books into an animated series in collaboration with BBC Studios and Blink Industries, where he will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the project.

Mohammed built his profile through a series of British television comedies, appearing in sitcoms including "Miranda" and "Life's Too Short," and as the promotions manager in "Drifters." He wrote and starred in the original comedy-drama "Magic," an episode of the Channel 4 anthology series "Coming Up." He voiced Piglet in the Disney film "Christopher Robin" and created and starred in the Sky One/Peacock comedy series "Intelligence."

Mohammed received international recognition for the role of Nathan Shelley in the Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso," earning nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category at the Primetime Emmy Awards. He portrayed Nathan Shelley, a kitman promoted to assistant coach for AFC Richmond who later became a manager for West Ham United F.C. The role highlighted Mohammed's ability to navigate a character's complex arc from underdog to antagonist.

Beyond "Ted Lasso," Mohammed has expanded his creative work, appearing in the fifth season of Apple TV+'s "Slow Horses" as Mayor Zafar Jaffrey and starring in the action comedy film "Deep Cover" alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Orlando Bloom. He opened "A Christmas Carol(ish)" in London's West End, a re-telling of Charles Dickens's classic with his Mr. Swallow character as the protagonist, and toured the UK as Mr. Swallow in the live show "Show Pony."

Mohammed appeared as a contestant on the first series of "The Celebrity Traitors," describing it as the first project he participated in as himself, reaching the final as a 'Faithful' alongside David Olusoga. He hosted the Laurence Olivier Awards at the Royal Albert Hall, further establishing his presence in British entertainment. With Emmy nominations, West End productions, and an expanding international film career, Mohammed is recognized for his versatility and contributions to comedy, television, and film.
