Lisa Baird Biography
Lisa Baird is an executive with more than three decades of experience leading global brands and sports organizations. Baird has held senior roles at Procter & Gamble, General Motors, and IBM, where she served as senior vice president of marketing communications. At IBM, she oversaw demand generation, advertising, events, and media for a marketing organization operating in more than 70 countries. Her background also includes five years at General Motors and six years in the healthcare industry with Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Warner Lambert. She began her career in brand management at Procter & Gamble.
Baird later became senior vice president of marketing and consumer products for the National Football League, where she directed the launch of NFL Play60, a program promoting physical activity among children. She also led marketing efforts with the New Orleans Saints to reopen the Superdome following Hurricane Katrina. Baird then served as chief marketing officer at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, where she created and launched the Team USA brand. During her tenure, she secured more than $700 million in U.S. sponsorship revenue and developed a retail consumer products business exceeding $100 million. As a member of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games bid team, she contributed to securing the Olympic and Paralympic Games for Los Angeles.
Baird went on to become commissioner of the National Women's Soccer League, the leading professional women's soccer league. She was the first female commissioner of the league and launched its first broadcast and streaming media partnerships. Baird led the league as the first professional sports league to return to play in North America during the COVID-19 pandemic, signed major sponsorships, and expanded the league into three new markets. Under her leadership, the league secured sponsorships with Google, P&G/Secret, and Verizon, maintained full player salary and benefits, and achieved record viewership and social media engagement.
Baird serves as CEO of NextUp, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing women in business. NextUp brings together professional women, allies, and corporate partners to promote gender equity and career advancement. Baird has received the McElroy Award from the P&G Alumni Association for achievements in consumer marketing, the Distinguished Alumna Award from Penn State, and Sports Business Journal's top award for innovation. She serves on the board of Cantaloupe, a provider of technology for self-serve commerce.
