Julie Aigner-Clark Biography
Julie Aigner-Clark is an entrepreneur, educator, and children's media pioneer known for founding The Baby Einstein Company. Aigner-Clark, a former high school English and art teacher with a degree from Michigan State University, transitioned from teaching to developing educational media after seeking age-appropriate resources to share art, classical music, language, and poetry with her daughter. She and her husband produced the first "Baby Einstein" video using borrowed equipment and personal savings. The original video, featuring puppets and classical music, received the Parenting Magazine Award for Best Video of the Year, establishing the Baby Einstein series as a recognized name in early childhood education.
Aigner-Clark directed the first 10 videos in the Baby Einstein series and expanded the brand into a multimedia franchise, including home video programs, CDs, books, flash cards, toys, and baby gear designed for infants and toddlers. She sold Baby Einstein to Walt Disney for more than $20 million. Her entrepreneurial work has been recognized through appearances on national television and acknowledgment by the President of the United States for her contributions to children's educational media.
After selling Baby Einstein, Aigner-Clark developed "The Safe Side," a series of children's safety videos and related products in collaboration with John Walsh, host of "America's Most Wanted" and co-founder of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Safe Side teaches children to make safe choices and supports the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The series earned a Heartland Emmy Award. Aigner-Clark continued her work in children's education technology by launching WeeSchool, later renamed ParentPal.
Aigner-Clark has addressed personal challenges publicly, including her experience as a breast cancer survivor. She authored the children's book "You Are the Best Medicine," published by HarperCollins, and has delivered a TEDx talk. Her achievements have been recognized with a Distinguished Alumni Award from Michigan State University and the Defense Health Agency Distinguished Civilian Service Award.
