Jim Morris Biography
Jim Morris is an American film producer, production executive, and visual effects pioneer who serves as president of Pixar Animation Studios. As president, Morris oversees all of the company's productions and operations, including the production of features, shorts, DVD content, and theme park activities. He also manages Pixar's Studio Tools, Systems, Development, and Human Resources departments.
Before joining Pixar, Morris built a career at Lucasfilm, where he held a range of key positions for 17 years in various divisions of Lucasfilm Ltd., serving as president of Lucas Digital Ltd. and managing its divisions, including Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Skywalker Sound, and Lucasfilm Animation. As ILM's general manager for more than 13 years, he supervised a staff of more than 1,400 artists and technicians and guided the largest visual effects facility in the entertainment industry. Under Morris' oversight, ILM created the Academy Award-winning visual effects in "Jurassic Park," "Death Becomes Her," "Terminator 2," and "Forrest Gump." Other projects completed under his management include "Mission: Impossible," "Twister," "Saving Private Ryan," "Star Wars: Episodes I" and "II," "The Perfect Storm," "Pearl Harbor," "Minority Report," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Master and Commander," and three films in the "Harry Potter" series.
Morris joined Pixar and produced "WALL·E," which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. For "WALL·E," he received the Producers Guild of America Producer of the Year for Animated Motion Pictures, the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, an American Film Institute Award for one of the 10 best films of the year, the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, and a Visual Effects Society Award. As president of Pixar Animation Studios, films under his supervision include "Ratatouille," "Up," "Toy Story 3," "Cars 2," "Brave," "Monsters University," "Inside Out," "The Good Dinosaur," "Finding Dory," "Cars 3," "Coco," and "Incredibles 2." He also produced the live-action Disney feature "John Carter" with director Andrew Stanton.
Morris' contributions to the film industry have earned recognition across multiple professional organizations. He is the recipient of the Producers Guild Digital 50 Award, the Visual Effects Society Board of Directors Award, and the Visual Effects Society Founders Award, and has been named a VES Fellow. Morris served as president of the San Francisco Film Commission and is founding chair of the Visual Effects Society. He is a member of AMPAS, PGA, BAFTA, VES, and ASIFA, and serves as a member of the Motion Picture Academy's Finance Committee. Morris also received the George Arents Award, Syracuse University's highest alumni honor. With a career spanning decades and encompassing some of Hollywood's most influential and technically groundbreaking films, Morris is recognized as a leading figure in film production, animation, and visual effects.
