Jeremy Howard Biography
Jeremy Howard is a data scientist, researcher, developer, educator, and entrepreneur known for his contributions to artificial intelligence and machine learning. Howard is the co-founder of fast.ai, a research institute focused on making deep learning more accessible, an Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland, and a Digital Fellow at Stanford University. He created ULMFiT, an AI system foundational to major language models such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Howard also serves as the founding CEO of Answer.AI, an AI research and development lab that develops practical end-user products based on foundational research.
Howard's entrepreneurial experience includes leading innovation in technology and data science. He was the founding CEO of Enlitic, the first company to apply deep learning to medicine, and served as President and Chief Scientist of Kaggle, a data science platform where he achieved top rankings in international machine learning competitions. Howard also founded two Australian startups, FastMail and Optimal Decisions Group, the latter of which was acquired by Lexis-Nexis. Earlier in his career, he worked in management consulting at McKinsey & Co. and AT Kearney.
As an educator, Howard has influenced how practitioners worldwide learn artificial intelligence. Fast.ai offers the online course "Practical Deep Learning for Coders," which requires only Python programming knowledge and is recognized as a long-standing course on AI and deep learning.
