Babak Hodjat Biography
Babak Hodjat is a computer scientist and entrepreneur recognized for his contributions to artificial intelligence. As chief AI officer at Cognizant, Hodjat leads AI Research Labs, overseeing teams focused on advancing AI technologies, developing differentiated features for Cognizant's offerings, and guiding the company's AI for good initiatives. His expertise includes natural language processing, machine learning, evolutionary algorithms, and distributed AI.
Hodjat co-founded Dejima Inc., where his patented work on artificial intelligence contributed to technology later used in Apple's digital assistant Siri. He also served as senior director of engineering at Sybase iAnywhere, leading mobile solutions engineering. Hodjat went on to co-found Sentient Technologies, where he was responsible for the core technology behind a large-scale distributed AI system, and founded Sentient Investment Management, an AI-driven hedge fund.
Hodjat has published more than 50 papers in artificial life, agent-oriented software engineering, and distributed artificial intelligence, and holds 39 issued U.S. patents. He earned a doctorate in machine intelligence from Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan. In addition to technical research, Hodjat is the author of "The Narrator," an AI science fiction novella, and "The Konar and the Apple," a collection of short stories.
Hodjat's work explores the application of advanced AI research to enterprise solutions.
