Hunter Woodhall Biography
Hunter Woodhall is a prominent figure in Paralympic track and field, recognized for his achievements as an adaptive athlete. Born with fibular hemimelia, Woodhall underwent bilateral below-the-knee amputations at 11 months old. He began running in fifth grade, joining his middle school track team, which marked the start of his athletic career.
Woodhall made his international debut at the World Championships in Doha, earning silver in the 400-meter T44 and bronze in the 200-meter T44. He went on to win two medals at his first Paralympic Games in Rio, securing silver in the 200-meter and bronze in the 400-meter events. Woodhall continued his success at the Tokyo Games, taking bronze in the 400-meter T44 men's event. At the Paris Paralympic Games, he won his first Paralympic gold medal in the men's 400-meter T62 final and added a bronze medal as part of Team USA's 4x100-meter universal relay squad. In total, Woodhall holds five Paralympic medals and American records in the 100-meter and 400-meter T62 events.
After graduating high school, Woodhall became the first double-amputee track and field athlete to earn a Division I athletic scholarship, which he accepted at the University of Arkansas. Competing in the Southeastern Conference, he achieved multiple personal records and received All-American recognition throughout his collegiate career. Woodhall is a four-time world medalist, five-time state champion, and former record holder in the 400-meter and 4x400-meter relay at Syracuse High School, where he was ranked No. 5 nationally.
Woodhall is active as a public speaker, delivering keynote addresses at educational institutions such as Brown University and Bridgewater College, and sharing his experiences on resilience and overcoming adversity. His story has been featured by ESPN, Good Morning America, Forbes, New York Times, Ellen DeGeneres Show, USA TODAY, Washington Post, Sports Illustrated, CNN, and NBC. He has served as an ambassador for Shriners Hospitals for Children and volunteers as a speaker at schools in Utah.
In addition to his athletic and speaking pursuits, Woodhall is involved in business ventures in apparel, social media, and real estate. He and his wife, Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall, are both members of Nike's track and field roster. Through public speaking, social media, and his athletic career, Woodhall advocates for inclusivity in sports and encourages others to pursue their goals regardless of obstacles. His journey from a child facing mobility challenges to a Paralympic gold medalist and keynote speaker positions him as a leading voice in adaptive athletics and sports advocacy.
