Hideki Matsui Biography

Hideki Matsui is a former professional baseball player from Japan who made a name for himself both domestically and internationally. Born on June 12, 1974, in Ishikawa, Japan, Matsui began playing baseball at an early age and soon rose to prominence as a star player in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league. He spent ten seasons with the Yomiuri Giants, where he earned the nickname "Godzilla" for his powerful hitting and impressive physical stature.

In 2003, Matsui signed with the New York Yankees and became the first Japanese-born position player to play in the Major Leagues. He quickly became a fan favorite in New York, known for his clutch hitting and all-around solid play. Matsui played seven seasons with the Yankees and helped the team win the World Series in 2009, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the series. He finished his Major League career with a .282 batting average, 175 home runs, and 760 runs batted in (RBIs). After retiring from professional baseball in 2013, Matsui returned to Japan and became a special advisor for the Yankees.
