Brandon Guyer Biography
Brandon Guyer retired in 2020 after playing MLB for 7 years.
He played college baseball at the University of Virginia from 2005-07 and is recognized as a Hall of Fame baseball player there.
In 2011 Guyer made his MLB debut and hit a homerun in his first at-bat, becoming the 108th player in MLB history to do so.
After 4 years in Tampa, the Rays dealt Guyer to the Cleveland Indians at the trade deadline in 2016. In his three seasons in Cleveland, the Indians were AL Central Champs three times and AL Champions in 2016.
He made a name for himself as a lefty masher, slashing a career .274/.376/.449. Guyer was also nicknamed ‘La Piñata’ after leading the league multiple years in HBP’s and he retired as MLB’s “HBP King”, being the all-time leader in MLB history per plate appearance. In total Guyer had 7 years of MLB service time.
In 2020, just a few months after retiring, Guyer founded Major League Mindset. His sole mission is to empower others with a mindset that enables them to consistently show up as the best version of themselves in all aspects of life.
The Major League Mindset system is laser-focused on two core aims: cultivating resilience in handling adversity and teaching others how to develop strategic routines to enhance their performance. By embracing these and the many other principles of MLM, individuals and teams not only unlock their full potential but also enjoy the process, and have more meaning and purpose in all that they do.
In 2023, Guyer served as the Head Mental Strength Coach for the Los Angeles Angels. Currently he serves as the Head Mental Strength Coach for the University of Virginia baseball team and travels around the country training and speaking with athletes, organizations and companies.
Guyer lives in Rockville, MD with his wife Lindsay and 3 kids (Riley - 9, Camden - 8, Cooper - 5).

Antifragile doesn't just mean you're the opposite of fragile, it means that the more you get kicked around the stronger you get. You are truly unbreakable and use EVERYTHING as fuel for your growth.
Confidence literally means 'intense trust'. Not an intense trust that you'll never struggle or feel pain in your life, but an intense trust that you know you can handle anything that comes your way. How do you earn that trust? By DWYSYWD (Doing what you say you will do). The same way you earn trust in any relationship, especially the relationship with yourself!
To truly cultivate antifragile confidence it is key to:
- Accept that life is supposed to be challenging (don't fight that!).
- Be a warrior (what's important now?) not a victim (why me?).
- Get comfortable being uncomfortable (How can you do something that 'sucks' and that is out of your comfort zone every day?).
- Have a WIN or LEARN mindset.
- Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude (may be the most important!).
- Lastly, develop emotional stamina (the worse you feel and the worse things are going for you, the MORE committed you are to doing what you know helps you show up at your best, for yourself and others. This is a true superpower!).
