Evander Holyfield Biography
Evander Holyfield, known as "The Real Deal," is recognized as one of the most accomplished professional boxers in history. Holyfield is the only professional fighter to win the heavyweight championship four times and the only boxer to secure the undisputed championship in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. His boxing career is marked by significant victories, high-profile rivalries, and a lasting influence on the sport of boxing.
Holyfield became the National Golden Gloves Champion and represented the United States at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, earning a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division. After turning professional, he captured the junior heavyweight title and became the first undisputed cruiserweight champion. Holyfield later claimed the undisputed heavyweight title, winning the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles, and became the only person to hold the world heavyweight championship four times.
Throughout his career, Holyfield achieved notable victories over George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Riddick Bowe, Ray Mercer, Mike Tyson, Michael Moorer, John Ruiz, Michael Dokes, and Hasim Rahman. His two bouts with Mike Tyson, including a win that reclaimed the WBA title and a rematch that ended in Tyson's disqualification, are among the most memorable moments in boxing history. Holyfield overcame health challenges, including a heart condition, and continued to compete at a high level until his retirement. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
