Erling Kagge Biography
Erling Kagge is a Norwegian polar explorer and acclaimed author. His books, which include 2016's "Silence: In the Age of Noise" and 2005's "Philosophy for Polar Explorers."
Having already reached the North Pole and the South Pole unsupported, in 1994, Kagge summited Mount Everest, thus becoming the first person to complete the "Three Poles Challenge." "The Three Poles Challenge" is an adventurer's challenge to reach the North Pole, the South Pole, and the summit of Mount Everest. Kagge has also sailed across the Atlantic twice and around Cape Horn.
After his record-breaking feat of reaching the three poles, Kagge attended Cambridge University to study philosophy. In 1996, he founded the publishing house, Kagge Forlag, which is based in Oslo, Norway, and is one of Norway's leading book publishing companies today.
In addition to his publishing business, explorations, and writing, Kagge is an avid collector of international contemporary art. The New York Times has described this multi-hyphenate as "a fascinating man. He's a philosophical adventurer or perhaps an adventurous philosopher."
