Eric Karros Biography
Eric Karros is a former professional baseball first baseman who spent 14 seasons in Major League Baseball, primarily with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Selected by the Dodgers in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball draft, Karros advanced through the organization and made an impact at the major league level. He finished his career with a .268 batting average, 284 home runs, and 1,724 hits. Karros earned a degree in economics from UCLA.
Karros was named National League Rookie of the Year and won a Silver Slugger Award. He also finished fifth in NL MVP voting that same year. During his tenure with the Dodgers, Karros established himself as a key player. His 270 home runs as a Los Angeles Dodger are the most since the team moved to Los Angeles and third in all-time Dodgers history. He is one of three Dodgers in franchise history to have five 30 home run/100 RBI seasons, along with Duke Snider and Gil Hodges. Karros remains the only Dodger in franchise history to hit two home runs in one inning.
Karros served as the Opening Day first baseman for the club nine of 10 years. His top statistical season included a .304 batting average, 34 home runs, and 112 RBI. After more than a decade with the Dodgers, the team traded Karros and Mark Grudzielanek to the Chicago Cubs, where he continued to contribute before signing with the Oakland Athletics.
After his playing career, Karros transitioned to television, becoming a color commentator for baseball on FOX and a co-broadcaster on the "MLB: The Show" video game. He spent two years at ESPN calling Major League Baseball, the Little League World Series, and College World Series games before returning to Fox. Karros has worked World Series, League Championship Series, All-Star Games, and regular season games for national broadcast at Fox. He works as a sportscaster, covering the Dodgers on Spectrum SportsNet LA, and is recognized for his expertise in baseball broadcasting and analysis.
