Doc Rivers Biography
Glenn Anton "Doc" Rivers is recognized as a significant figure in NBA history, with a career spanning both playing and coaching roles. Rivers played in the NBA for 14 seasons, earning an NBA All-Star selection and inclusion among the 15 Greatest Coaches in NBA History. After representing the United States at the FIBA World Championship, where he was named tournament MVP, and graduating from Marquette University, Rivers was drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. As a point guard, Rivers was noted for his defensive skills and averaged a double-double during the 1986–87 season, recording 12.4 points and 10.0 assists per game.
Following his playing career, Rivers transitioned into broadcasting with NBA on TNT before beginning his coaching career with the Orlando Magic. He was named Coach of the Year after his first season with the Magic, guiding a team projected to finish last to a near playoff berth. Rivers later became head coach of the Boston Celtics, leading the team to an NBA Championship and a 416–305 regular season record. He also served as head coach for the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers, guiding the 76ers to the top seed in the Eastern Conference and three consecutive NBA Playoff appearances. Rivers coached the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA Cup title and holds a 1,192–863 (.580) coaching record, ranking sixth all-time in wins among NBA head coaches.
Rivers has spoken publicly about overcoming attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a diagnosis he received while coaching the Celtics. His openness has contributed to discussions on mental health in professional sports. Rivers is featured in the Netflix documentary series "The Playbook," where he discusses his family, the Celtics championship run, and the Donald Sterling situation. Off the court, Rivers serves on the National Advisory Board for Positive Coaching Alliance, mentoring coaches and student-athletes on resilience and leadership.
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame named Rivers to its Hall of Fame Class as a coach, and he ranks fourth in NBA history for playoff coaching wins. After his coaching tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks, Rivers joined NBC Sports as an NBA game analyst, offering insights from his experiences as a Hall of Fame coach, NBA champion, former All-Star player, and broadcaster. Rivers contributes to conversations on teamwork, overcoming adversity, and high-performance culture in basketball.

He was the best speaker we've had in recent history. He was well prepared, came ready to tie his personal experiences back to our firm's key tenets, and was engaged in the content ahead of his moderated conversation so he could tie back his talking points to what had previously been said. We only heard extremely positive feedback from the audience - everyone was extremely engaged.

DOC was amazing. He was very open about his time in the league and shared some tremendous insights with the group. He was the highlight of the event.
