Urban Meyer is an American football coach renowned for his strategic acumen and leadership qualities. He has served as the head coach for several teams, including the Bowling Green Falcons from 2001 to 2002, the Utah Utes from 2003 to 2004, the Florida Gators from 2005 to 2010, and the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2012 to 2018. Meyer retired from collegiate coaching in 2019 following the Rose Bowl, subsequently taking roles as an assistant athletic director at Ohio State and a college football studio analyst for FOX, appearing on their "Big Noon Kickoff" pre-game show. In 2021, Meyer briefly returned to coaching as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL but was dismissed before the season's end.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, and raised in Ashtabula, Meyer attended the University of Cincinnati, where he played football as a defensive back. His time as head coach at the University of Florida was particularly notable, leading the Gators to BCS National Championship Game victories in 2006 and 2008. With an overall collegiate coaching record of 187-32, his winning percentage (.853) ranks among the highest in college football history. Meyer's teams also had a strong postseason record, including a 12-3 performance in bowl games and a 27-3 record in rivalry games.
Beyond the field, Meyer is a bestselling author, having penned "Above the Line: Lessons in Leadership and Life from a Champion Season." Alongside his wife, Shelley, he co-founded the Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research, which supports initiatives at Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. His philanthropic efforts, particularly in cancer research, underscore his commitment to community and personal development off the field.
