David Koechner Biography
David Koechner is an actor, comedian, writer, and musician with a career spanning more than three decades and over 200 film and television credits. After studying at the University of Missouri, Koechner moved to Chicago, where he began his career in improvisational comedy at ImprovOlympic and was part of Second City Northwest. His early break came with his role on "Saturday Night Live" during one season. Following this, Koechner joined the sketch cast of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," where he became known for the recurring "NBC Gargoyles" sketch.
Koechner's work in the Chicago improv scene led to a collaboration with Will Ferrell, culminating in his breakout film role in "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." This role established Koechner as a prominent character actor in comedy films and earned him MTV Movie Award nominations for Best On-Screen Team and Best Musical Performance. Koechner reprised the role of Champ Kind in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," co-starred in the horror-comedy "Krampus," and received critical attention for his performance in the black comedy "Cheap Thrills."
On television, Koechner is recognized for his recurring role as Todd Packer in NBC's "The Office." He has also co-hosted A&E's "America's Top Dog," played Bill Lewis on ABC's "The Goldbergs," and appeared on ABC's "Bless This Mess," CBS's "Superior Donuts," Showtime's "Twin Peaks," Comedy Central's "Another Period," and IFC's "Stan Against Evil." Koechner provides voice work for recurring characters on FOX's "American Dad" and Netflix's "F is for Family" and "The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants."
Koechner's additional film credits include "Waiting," "Out Cold," "Talladega Nights," "Get Smart," "Extract," "Thank You for Smoking," and "A Haunted House." While primarily known for comedy, Koechner has taken on dramatic roles, such as in the drama "Priceless," a film addressing human trafficking. Other film projects include "Then Came You," "Braking for Whales," "A Week Away," "Vicious Fun," and "National Champions."
In collaboration with David Gruber Allen, Koechner formed the musical comedy duo The Naked Trucker and T-Bones, performing live and creating "The Naked Trucker & T-Bones Show" on Comedy Central. Koechner continues to tour as a stand-up comedian, performing "The Office" trivia shows and traditional comedy sets nationwide. His career encompasses improv, television, film, and live performance, making him a recognizable figure in the entertainment industry, particularly in comedy and character acting.
