Dan Lin Biography
Dan Lin is a Taiwanese-American film and television producer known for his contributions to the Hollywood blockbuster industry. Before founding his own production company, Lin served as senior vice president of production at Warner Bros., where he oversaw the development and production of major motion pictures, including Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning drama "The Departed." Lin holds degrees from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Business School, bringing a combination of creative and business expertise to his work in entertainment.
Lin established his film and television production company, later renamed Rideback, where he serves as CEO. Rideback has produced several major theatrical releases, including the "Sherlock Holmes," "LEGO Movie," and "It" franchises, as well as the live-action adaptation of "Aladdin," which earned over $1 billion in worldwide box office revenue. Lin's productions have collectively grossed $6 billion globally. He also produced "The Two Popes" for Netflix, which received multiple Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
Lin has received recognition from industry publications, including being named to Variety's "10 Producers to Watch" and The Hollywood Reporter's list of "The 30 Most Powerful Film Producers in Hollywood." He received a Producers Guild of America Award for "The LEGO Movie" and a BAFTA Children's Award for Best Feature Film for the same project. Lin is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and serves on the Producers Guild of America's National Board of Directors.
Lin launched Rideback Rise, a nonprofit BIPOC content accelerator designed to support experienced creators in producing mainstream film and television projects that advance racial equity. Rideback is based at Rideback Ranch, a creative campus in Los Angeles' Historic Filipinotown, which also houses companies such as Warner Animation Group and Animal Logic.
Lin has also served as Netflix's head of film, overseeing projects including "Happy Gilmore 2," "People We Meet on Vacation," and the live-action adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender." His career spans studio executive roles, independent production, and streaming leadership, establishing Lin as a versatile figure in the film and television industry.
