Ben Lerner Biography
Ben Lerner, a well-versed writer and scholar, has been recognized for his work in literature with multiple prestigious awards. Among these are the Fulbright Scholarship, Guggenheim Fellowship, Believer Book Award, and MacArthur Fellowship. His literary prowess has positioned him as a finalist for the National Book Award for Poetry, the National Book Critics Circle Award in Fiction, and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. In addition to his writing career, Lerner is actively involved in academia as a Distinguished Professor of English at Brooklyn College since 2016.
Lerner's robust portfolio includes novels such as "Leaving the Atocha Station," which won the Believer Book Award, and "The Topeka School," which won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and was a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. His novel "10:04" was named one of the best books of the 21st century by The New York Times. He has also contributed to the literary world with his essays, art criticism, and literary criticism, which have been published by Harper's Magazine, the London Review of Books, The New York Review of Books, and The New Yorker.
In 2023, Lerner published his fourth full-length book of poetry, "The Lights," and has worked as a poetry editor for both Critical Quarterly and Harper's. His collaborations on book projects with artists such as Thomas Demand and Anna Ostoya have further diversified his body of work. Some of his other notable achievements include the Terry Southern Fiction Prize from The Paris Review in 2014, the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2013, and being longlisted for The Griffin Prize for poetry in 2024. His work and influence extend beyond writing, as seen in his editorial work against funding cuts in higher education.
