Vanessa Bell Calloway is an acclaimed actress, director, producer, and mother. Most recently, she starred in the historic film Harriet as Rit Ross Tubman’s mother, and reprised her iconic role as Princess Imani Izzi in “Coming 2 America.” Calloway also stars in Bounce TV’s one-hour hit-drama “Saint & Sinners”, BET’s “Games People Play,” and the finale season of the award-winning Showtime series, “Shameless.
In addition to acting, Calloway complete production as director on her second films for both BET.
An eight-time NAACP Image Award nominee, Calloway won the Best Actress NAACP Theater Award for her role as Zora Neale Hurston in the one-woman, critically-acclaimed, play “Letters From Zora.”

Vanessa Bell Calloway landed the role of Imani Izzi in “Coming to America” with the help of a $30 wig. “My hair was short at the time, and I know men in Hollywood: They like long hair, so my short hair was not going to be pretty to them. So I ran to the beauty supply store and I got this little cheap wig,” she told Page Six Style of preparing for her audition for the 1988 flick.
