Stuart Oda Biography
Tsuyoshi Stuart Oda is an entrepreneur and agricultural innovator recognized for his contributions to technology-driven sustainable food production. Oda began his professional journey in investment banking, working in the investment banking division of Merrill Lynch Japan Securities and the global emerging markets business development team at Dell China. This experience in corporate finance and emerging markets provided Oda with insight into the challenges of sustainable food supply for a growing global population.
Oda is the founder of Alesca Life, an agricultural technology company specializing in indoor vertical farms and farm management software. Alesca Life develops patented hardware, proprietary operational management software, and artificial intelligence-enhanced monitoring and automation IoT devices. These solutions enable food production using 95 to 99 percent less water, fertilizer, and land compared to traditional farming methods, eliminating the need for chemical pesticides or GMOs. The company repurposes shipping containers into automated, hydroponic farms that use fewer resources to grow crops.
Alesca Life’s precision agriculture and controlled environment agriculture solutions have been implemented in China, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore, with projects in the Middle East and Southern Africa. Oda and his team have received recognition from the World Economic Forum as a Tech Pioneer, SDG Champion for Zero Hunger, and Global Innovator for their leadership in urban food production. Alesca Life has participated in accelerator programs such as Stanford StartX, Unreasonable Impact, BitsxBites, Dubai Futures, Thrive Agtech, and Alltech Pearse Lyons.
Oda has spoken on the future of the agritech sector at venues including TED World Theater, Majlis Mohamed Bin Zayed Lectures, and UN FAO headquarters. His TED Talk, "Are indoor vertical farms the future of agriculture?," has reached a global audience and explores innovative approaches to food production. Oda’s work focuses on expanding access to fresh and nutritious food by making food production technology and knowledge more accessible. In addition to his role at Alesca Life, Oda has participated in Unreasonable Group programs and advised more than 69 Unreasonable companies, contributing to the advancement of the global agritech ecosystem.
