Richard Paul Evans Biography
Richard Paul Evans is a bestselling author recognized for his contributions to contemporary fiction and young adult literature. Evans's career began with the publication of "The Christmas Box," a story originally written for his two daughters. At the time, he worked as an advertising executive and clay animator for the American and Japanese markets. After sharing 20 copies of the story with family and friends, demand for the book grew rapidly, leading to widespread interest from bookstores and readers.
"The Christmas Box" reached the number-two position on the New York Times bestseller list and prompted a competitive auction among major publishing houses. Evans signed with Simon & Schuster, and the book became the first to simultaneously reach the number-one spot on the New York Times bestseller list for both paperback and hardcover editions. He has authored more than 40 consecutive New York Times bestsellers, with over 35 million copies of his books in print and translations in more than 24 languages. Evans is among the select authors to appear on both fiction and nonfiction bestseller lists.
Seven of Evans's books have been adapted into television movies, featuring actors such as Maureen O'Hara, Rob Lowe, Christopher Lloyd, James Earl Jones, Naomi Watts, Vanessa Redgrave, and Ellen Burstyn. His first feature film, "The Noel Diary," starred Justin Hartley and was directed by Charles Shyer. In the young adult genre, Evans is known for the "Michael Vey" series, which has achieved bestseller status and received multiple awards.
Evans has received several honors, including the American Mothers Book Award, the Romantic Times Best Women's Novel of the Year Award, the German Audience Gold Award for Romance, five Religion Communicators Council Wilbur Awards, The Washington Times Humanitarian of the Century Award, and the Volunteers of America National Empathy Award. His nonfiction titles, such as "The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth," have reached broad audiences with practical advice on personal finance and life skills. Evans has spoken about his experiences growing up in poverty and facing challenges related to Tourette's Syndrome, which inform his work as a public speaker and storyteller.
Evans founded The Christmas Box International, an organization providing emergency shelter and resources for abused, neglected, or homeless children, teens, and young adults. The Christmas Box House facilities and programs have served more than 140,000 children. He also established Author Ready, a mentoring group for aspiring writers focused on writing, publishing, and marketing. Evans's work addresses themes of resilience, purpose, and the impact of storytelling, reflecting his ongoing commitment to literature and humanitarian efforts.
