Pete Kofod Biography
Pete Kofod is a cybersecurity expert and entrepreneur whose career spans military service and technology. He is the founder and president of Datasages, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based firm providing software, integration, and information architecture services to the critical infrastructure industry, with a focus on blockchain technology. Kofod is also the co-founder of Theia Global, which offers training and services to address emerging risks and threats. Additionally, he is the founder and CEO of The Sixth Flag Inc., a company delivering Workspace-as-a-Service solutions, including secure virtual workspaces and disposable desktops for global mobile teams.
Kofod has more than 20 years of experience in information technology, including the development of secure hosted services for the transportation industry and the design and management of networks in the utility and defense sectors. Before founding Datasages, he led the enterprise management consulting service at ARINC, now Collins Aerospace, where he oversaw the deployment of large enterprise management systems focused on high availability and secure networks. His work included projects such as the ground network for the International Space Station and the New York Transit Authority C3 network, part of a multibillion-dollar security initiative following post-9/11 security hearings. His professional expertise includes Internet security, trustless systems, and privacy. Kofod has served on the network security committee for the American Public Transit Association and on the Interoperable Train Control security committee.
Before entering the technology sector, Kofod served on active duty as a United States Army officer, working as a platoon leader and staff officer. In a later deployment, he served in Iraq as a member of a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha, acting as a combat advisor to the Iraqi Special Forces. Kofod later returned to service and serves as a senior Cyber Branch officer in the Army reserve component. His military background informs his approach to cybersecurity, emphasizing system hardening, mitigation, resiliency, defense in depth, cell structure security, message-based architecture, and discardable resources.
Kofod has spoken internationally on blockchain applications in contract settlement and critical infrastructure assurance. He has presented to the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve, major U.S. banks, elected officials, and other stakeholders on cryptocurrencies and smart contracts. He is a frequent speaker on Internet security, system management, trustless systems, and privacy. Kofod holds an electrical engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
