Olivia Wilde Biography
Olivia Wilde is an actress, director, and screenwriter known for her work in film, television, and theater. Wilde first gained recognition for her performances on both television and in movies, later establishing herself as a director with films that often focus on women and explore feminist themes. She chose her stage name in honor of Oscar Wilde, reflecting her admiration for the Irish writer. After attending Phillips Academy, Wilde studied at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin.
Wilde attracted early attention for her recurring role as Alex Kelly on the teen drama TV series "The O.C." She achieved broader recognition with her role as Remy Hadley on the medical drama "House," where her portrayal of a bisexual internist with Huntington's disease earned her a Screen Actors Guild nomination as part of the ensemble cast.
Following her time on "House," Wilde concentrated on her film career, starring in "Tron: Legacy," "Cowboys & Aliens," "In Time," "Drinking Buddies," and "Her." She played Suzy Miller in the biographical drama "Rush," and appeared in "Her," which received critical acclaim and recognition from the Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. Wilde made her Broadway debut in 1984 and starred in the Clint Eastwood-directed drama "Richard Jewell."
Wilde made her directorial debut with the teen comedy film "Booksmart," which received critical acclaim and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Her directorial approach in "Booksmart" highlighted female friendship and empowerment. She went on to direct the thriller "Don't Worry Darling" and "The Invite," both of which she also starred in. As a producer, Wilde won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Documentary for "Body Team 12," a film documenting the team responsible for collecting the dead during the Ebola outbreak.
