Nate Boyer

Keynote Speaker: U.S. Army Green Beret Veteran & NFL Player; Filmmaker & TV Host; Co-Founder of Merging Vets & Players

Nate Boyer Biography

Nate Boyer is a former U.S. Army Green Beret, professional football player, filmmaker, television host, and philanthropist. Boyer enlisted in the United States Army after volunteering as a relief worker in Sudan. During his service as a Green Beret, he deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and participated in Joint Command Exchange Training missions in locations including Israel, Bulgaria, and Greece. He received the Bronze Star for heroism in combat, reflecting his leadership and dedication throughout a decade of military service.

After his military career, Boyer enrolled at the University of Texas and pursued college football, despite having no prior experience in organized football. He learned the long snapper position and became the starting long snapper for the University of Texas Longhorns. Boyer earned a First-Team Academic All-Big 12 Selection and was named the NFF Legacy Award recipient. He also received the Disney Spirit Award at the ESPN College Football Awards, which recognizes inspirational figures in college football.

Boyer later became the oldest rookie in NFL history while playing for the Seattle Seahawks. He played a key role in advising Colin Kaepernick to kneel during the national anthem, a decision that contributed to a significant cultural conversation in sports and society.

In addition to his football career, Boyer has worked in the entertainment industry. He appeared in the video game "Madden NFL 18" in the story mode "Longshot" as Captain McCarthy, and acted in the film "Den of Thieves" and the TV series "Mayans M.C." Boyer hosted the Discovery Channel reality competition series "Survive the Raft" and the NFL Network series "Indivisible with Nate Boyer." His directorial debut film, "MVP," explores the challenges faced by veterans and athletes.

Boyer co-founded Merging Vets & Players (MVP), a nonprofit organization that supports military veterans and former professional athletes in their transitions to civilian life. He is also active as a motivational speaker, addressing audiences that include veterans, athletes, students, and business leaders. Boyer’s work centers on resilience, purpose, and the transition from military and athletic careers to new opportunities in civilian life.
