Nancy Spielberg Biography
Nancy Spielberg is an accomplished film producer, philanthropist, and advocate for preserving Jewish history and culture. Growing up immersed in filmmaking, she worked on her brother Steven Spielberg’s early films as part of the cast and crew. After attending Arizona State University and UCLA, she moved to New York in 1978, where she studied film at Sarah Lawrence College and the New School. While Nancy initially pursued a successful business career, she later shifted her focus to documentary filmmaking, where her passion for storytelling and preserving history flourished.
Spielberg’s career as a producer gained prominence with "Above and Beyond", a documentary about Jewish-American pilots who fought in Israel’s War of Independence. The film won the audience award at more than twenty film festivals, showcasing Nancy’s ability to tell compelling stories of heroism and resilience. She also served as the executive producer of "Mimi and Dona", a documentary about a mother-daughter relationship impacted by disability, which aired nationally on PBS. Her work further includes producing "Who Will Write Our History," a powerful film about the secret archive of the Warsaw Ghetto, and "On the Map" and "AULCIE", both documentaries by filmmaker Dani Menkin.
In addition to these, Nancy Spielberg was the executive producer of "Vishniac", a documentary directed by Laura Bialis that explores the life of photographer Roman Vishniac. She also contributed as a consulting producer on "GI JEWS: Jewish Americans in World War II," which aired on PBS in 2018. Through these projects, Spielberg has demonstrated a strong commitment to producing films that not only entertain but educate, using cinema as a platform to preserve historical legacies and promote understanding across generations.
