Nancy Hightshoe Biography

Nancy Hightshoe is a former police detective, safety expert, and keynote speaker with a career focused on personal safety, security, and survival. Hightshoe was among the first female beat patrol officers in the United States following the enactment of Title VII. She was one of the first women in the nation to patrol in a one-officer squad car on all three shifts and, as a Crimes Against Persons detective, cleared more than 85 percent of her felony assault investigations, compared to the national average of 49 percent.

Hightshoe served nine years with the St. Louis County Department of Police, where she created the Sexual Assault Investigative Unit and achieved an 85 percent case clearance rate as a Crimes Against Persons detective. She designed the St. Louis County Rape Squad and, as a detective with that unit, made more than 125 felony arrests resulting in more than 1,000 years of penitentiary sentences. Hightshoe has been certified in both state and federal courts as an expert witness in felony sex crime trials.

As a speaker, coach, and consultant, Hightshoe specializes in safety, security, and survival strategies. She has provided training and consulting for organizations including the Young Presidents' Organization and Fortune 500 companies, as well as government agencies, associations, and educational institutions throughout the United States and internationally. Hightshoe continues to train police detectives and military investigators and provides LifeSkills coaching to victims of serious crimes, particularly sexual assault survivors.

Her background informs programs on leadership, motivation, change management, resilience, customer service, negotiation skills, human relations, media and communication training, conflict management, stress management, workplace violence, and personal safety. Hightshoe regularly appears on camera and assists with story ideas and statistical background as the personal safety expert for the NBC affiliate in St. Louis. Her program, "The Lady Was A Cop: Safety, Security and Survival," draws from her law enforcement experience to deliver practical insights to diverse audiences.

Hightshoe holds a master's degree in human relations and in the administration of justice, as well as a bachelor's degree in psychology. Her contributions have been recognized with honors such as the Webster University Distinguished Alumna Award and a commendation from the Giraffe Project for her actions. Hightshoe has also been named to the World Who's Who of Women. With experience bridging law enforcement and corporate leadership, Hightshoe is a recognized authority on safety, resilience, and human potential.
