Mike Wallace Biography
Mike Wallace is an internationally recognized expert in the ESG and sustainability field with more than 25 years of experience advising corporations, non-profits, and government agencies on the development and implementation of sustainability, environmental, social, and governance strategies. Wallace works regularly with corporate executive teams to help them understand sustainability risks and identify ESG opportunities. He has launched a range of sustainability programs within existing organizations, created new initiatives, and supported organizations expanding into new markets, including the Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings, Trucost North America, and Global Footprint Network.
Prior to his later roles, Wallace served as a director for the Global Reporting Initiative, where he contributed to foundational initiatives such as the International Integrated Reporting Council, the European Commission proposal on corporate ESG reporting, and the UN Sustainable Stock Exchange Initiative on ESG listing guidance. He later became a partner at the global sustainability consultancy ERM, where he counseled clients on corporate responsibility and sustainability solutions, and also served as the interim executive director for the Social & Human Capital Coalition, a multi-stakeholder project of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. His work included overseeing the establishment of governance structures, technical councils, and global networks that supported the creation of the Social & Human Capital Protocol, which was launched by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Nasdaq, and Microsoft.
Wallace is recognized for his expertise in ESG ratings and rankings, beginning with his facilitation of a corporate working group on survey fatigue for BSR. He helped create the Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings and chaired ESG Ratings & Rankings working groups for the Corporate Responsibility Association and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Wallace was among the first chief decarbonization officers and serves on the board of The Climate Trust. He also serves on the board of NIRI's Virtual Chapter, the CSO Strategic Task Force of Pando Populus, and the advisory board of the Center for Business Leadership of Miami University.
Wallace is a regular speaker at sustainability and ESG conferences, has authored numerous articles on sustainability and ESG issues, and contributed to "Climate Change – a Guide to Carbon Law & Practice." He has provided expert testimony to the European Commission, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the General Services Administration, as well as business associations such as the US Business Roundtable, National Association of Corporate Directors, The Society for Corporate Governance Professionals, and the National Investor Relations Institute. Wallace has been included in the NACD Directorship 100 and Trust Across America's Top 100 Thought Leaders. His cross-sector experience and ability to translate complex ESG frameworks into actionable corporate strategy position him as an authoritative voice in the evolving sustainability landscape.
