Marin Hinkle Biography
Marin Hinkle is an American actress whose career spans theater, film, and television. Originally trained as a classical ballerina, Hinkle shifted to acting after an ankle injury ended her dance aspirations at age 16. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Master of Fine Arts from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, establishing a foundation for her work in the performing arts.
Hinkle began her professional career on stage, making her Broadway debut in the revival of "The Tempest," directed by George C. Wolfe, and later appearing in "A Thousand Clowns" and "Electra" on Broadway. She has performed Off-Broadway in productions such as "Dinner With Friends" and "Luce" at Lincoln Center Theater, as well as in regional theater at Geffen Playhouse, South Coast Repertory, and Williamstown Theatre Festival. Her television breakthrough came with the ABC drama "Once and Again," where she played Judy Brooks, a character central to the show’s exploration of divorce, blended families, and emotional intimacy. Hinkle later took on the recurring role of Judith Harper-Melnick on the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men."
Hinkle is also known for her portrayal of Rose Weissman in the Amazon Prime Video series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." Over five seasons, the character developed from a traditional 1950s housewife to a more independent figure, and Hinkle’s performance was recognized for its depth and complexity. For her work on the series, she received nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and was part of the ensemble cast that won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
In addition to her television work, Hinkle’s film credits include roles in "I'm Not Rappaport," "Frequency," "I Am Sam," and "Quarantine." She has also appeared in the Hulu historical drama miniseries "We Were the Lucky Ones," the NBC medical comedy "St. Denis Medical," and the Hulu limited series "Good American Family." Hinkle’s career reflects a consistent presence in American entertainment, with work spanning prestige drama, comedy, and stage performance.
