Marilyn Denis Biography
Marilyn Denis is a Canadian broadcaster with a career spanning four decades in radio and television. Denis began her broadcasting journey at a local radio station in Moscow, Idaho, where she became the first female disc jockey. She later moved to Calgary, holding roles as music director, programmer, and traffic reporter, and worked for CFCN-TV and TSN as an entertainment reporter and weather announcer. Denis moved to Toronto to work at CHUM FM, co-hosting the "Roger, Rick and Marilyn Show."
Denis expanded her media presence into television, hosting the daytime lifestyle program "CityLine" for nearly 20 years. She also shared hosting duties on Bravo!'s Gemini Award-winning concert series "Live at the Rehearsal Hall" and later hosted "The Marilyn Denis Show," which provided viewers with entertainment, celebrity interviews, and lifestyle content.
Throughout her career, Denis has received multiple honors, including three Gemini Awards, the Rosalie Award for contributions to Canadian radio broadcasting, and two Canadian Screen Awards for Best Talk Program for "The Marilyn Denis Show." She became the first female broadcaster to receive the Allan Waters Lifetime Achievement Award at Canadian Music Week and was named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 by WXN.
Denis has also been recognized with the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television's Lifetime Achievement Award at the Canadian Screen Awards and was made a Member of the Order of Ontario. She received an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of Idaho, where she delivered the commencement address. After 40 years on air, Denis concluded her daily morning show at CHUM 104.5, marking the end of a four-decade presence on Canadian airwaves. Denis is recognized for her contributions to Canadian broadcasting, particularly as a pioneer for women in the industry.
