Larry the Cable Guy Biography
Daniel Lawrence Whitney, known professionally as Larry the Cable Guy, is a stand-up comedian recognized for his blue-collar persona, rapid-fire punchlines, and the catchphrase, "Git-R-Done." Whitney began his career performing traditional stand-up before developing the Larry character, which he introduced on nationally syndicated radio programs. After starting as a call-in guest on Florida-based radio shows, Whitney gained a following on the comedy circuit and achieved national prominence as part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, alongside Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Ron White. The tour, which highlighted working-class humor, led to sold-out shows and several televised specials.
Whitney has released seven comedy albums, with two certified platinum and one certified gold by the RIAA. He has received multiple Billboard Awards, including Comedy Artist, Comedy Album of the Year, and Top Comedy Tour. Whitney earned two Grammy nominations for Best Comedy Album for "The Right to Bare Arms" and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour album "One For The Road." His book, "Git-R-Done," appeared on the New York Times bestseller list. Whitney has also been featured on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list for several years.
In film and television, Whitney has starred in movies such as "Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector," "Delta Farce," and "Witless Protection." He is widely recognized for voicing Mater in Disney/Pixar's "Cars" franchise, including three feature films and the Disney+ series "Cars on the Road." His performance as Mater earned him a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Performance by an Animated Character in an Animated Motion Picture. The "Cars" films have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
Whitney hosted "Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy" on History for three seasons, exploring American culture and history. He has released stand-up specials including "Remain Seated" on Netflix. Whitney also launched the comedy channel "Jeff and Larry's Comedy Roundup" on SiriusXM in partnership with Jeff Foxworthy.
Whitney established The Git-R-Done Foundation, which has donated more than $7 million to various charities. From his beginnings as a radio personality to his achievements as a multiplatinum recording artist, Grammy nominee, and voice actor, Whitney has built a career centered on working-class American comedy.
