Kenneth Bruce Gorelick, known professionally as Kenny G, is a Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, composer, and record producer recognized for his contributions to smooth jazz and contemporary instrumental music. Gorelick's melodic fusion of pop instrumental and smooth jazz has resulted in the sale of more than 75 million records, establishing him as one of the most commercially successful instrumental performers in modern music history. After nearly a decade performing as a sideman for artists such as Barry White and Jeff Lorber, Gorelick achieved platinum status with a series of solo albums that positioned him in the smooth jazz, R&B, and contemporary pop markets.
Gorelick's breakthrough occurred with his fourth studio album, "Duotones," which featured the single "Songbird" and propelled him to international recognition. His album "Breathless" sold more than 12 million copies in the United States, becoming the top-selling instrumental album in history. Gorelick received a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition for the track "Forever in Love" and set a Guinness World Record for playing the longest note recorded on a saxophone. His commercial success continued with holiday albums, duet collections, and projects that consistently placed him at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.
Gorelick has collaborated with a range of prominent artists, including Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand, Burt Bacharach, and Frank Sinatra. He has maintained an active concert schedule, including performances with George Benson on the "Breezin' & Breathless Tour." Gorelick also reached number 37 on the Hot 100 with a guest appearance on Kanye West's song "Use This Gospel."
His album "New Standards," his 19th studio release, reflects a four-decade career and a vision of jazz that contributed to the development of both a musical genre and a radio format. "New Standards" led the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart for nine consecutive weeks and accumulated millions of streams. The HBO Max documentary "Listening to Kenny G" further highlighted his influence on contemporary jazz. Gorelick followed with "Innocence," a collection of lullabies accompanied by an orchestra.
Over a career spanning five decades, Gorelick has released 20 studio albums, achieved more than 1.5 billion global streams, seven Top 40-charting singles, and 17 Grammy nominations.
