Julie Andrews Biography
Julie Andrews is a performer known for her work in film, television, and theater. Andrews has received an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, two Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and six Golden Globe Awards, along with nominations for three Tony Awards. Beginning as a child actress and singer, Andrews appeared in the West End and made her Broadway debut in "The Boy Friend." She gained recognition for her roles as Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady" and Queen Guinevere in "Camelot."
Andrews won the Oscar for Best Actress for her film debut in "Mary Poppins." She starred in "The Sound of Music," which became one of the most popular motion pictures in cinema history. Andrews earned a third Oscar nomination for her performance in "Victor/Victoria," a film in which she portrayed a woman who pretends to be a man impersonating a woman. She has received five Golden Globe Awards, including two for World Film Favorite and one for her role in "Victor/Victoria," which she later reprised on Broadway.
Her film credits include "The Princess Diaries" and its sequel, "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement." Andrews narrated "Enchanted" and voiced the queen in several "Shrek" films, as well as characters in "Despicable Me," "Despicable Me 3," and "Aquaman." Andrews provided the voice of Lady Whistledown in the Netflix series "Bridgerton," earning an Emmy Award for her narration.
Andrews has been recognized with honors such as the Honorary Golden Lion, Kennedy Center Honors, Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, and AFI Life Achievement Award. She was named a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to her acting career, Andrews is an author of several books, including "Home: A Memoir of My Early Years" and the children's book "Shy," co-written with her eldest daughter. Andrews is known for her contributions to musical theater, family films, and children's literature.
