Jim Kavanaugh Biography
Jim Kavanaugh is the co-founder and CEO of World Wide Technology, a global technology solutions provider recognized as one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. After representing the United States in the Summer Olympics, Kavanaugh transitioned from a professional soccer career with the St. Louis Steamers and Los Angeles Lazers in the Major Indoor Soccer League to the business sector. He studied business administration at Saint Louis University, where he also played collegiate soccer, before beginning his business career as a sales manager for Future Electronics, a manufacturer and distributor of electronic components. Seeking a more entrepreneurial path, Kavanaugh co-founded World Wide Technology with David Steward.
Kavanaugh has guided World Wide Technology from its beginnings as a small startup to a global technology solutions provider, supporting organizations with digital transformation, IT infrastructure, and enterprise technology integration. He played a key role in securing the company’s financial stability through profitable growth and a significant venture capital investment, which was later repaid. World Wide Technology generates $20 billion in annual revenue, ranks among the largest private companies in the United States, and employs more than 14,000 people. Kavanaugh’s responsibilities include technology innovation, long-term planning, strategic acquisitions, financial performance, employee development, and overseeing the company’s corporate culture.
Kavanaugh is known for his inclusive leadership style and focus on workplace culture, contributing to World Wide Technology’s recognition on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list by Great Place to Work for multiple years. Kavanaugh has also led philanthropic initiatives, including a capital campaign for the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge St. Louis, now named World Wide Technology Hope Lodge.
