Jack "2fish" Fischer holds a distinguished career spanning multiple realms, from combat fighter pilot to astronaut and to a military space operations leader. As a retired Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, Fischer has demonstrated resilience and leadership, having flown two combat tours as part of Operation Southern Watch, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Southern Focus. He further expanded his skills by conducting flight and weapons testing in multiple variants of the F-15 and the F-22 as a distinguished graduate from the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School.
Fischer's exploration pursuits took a remarkable turn when he was selected as part of the 20th NASA astronaut group in June 2009. His contributions to space exploration are highlighted by his completion of one spaceflight, which lasted from April to September 2017. During his time on the International Space Station (ISS), he served as a board engineer for Expeditions 51 and 52 and conducted two spacewalks, totaling nearly seven hours. His tenure at NASA culminated in 2018, leaving a legacy of dedication and service.
Post-NASA, Fischer continued his service in the realm of space operations as he joined the Air Force Space Command of the US Air Force. He served as the Division Chief for the Global Space Operations Division and later as the Vice Commander of the 50th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. Fischer's leadership prowess was further emphasized when he led "Task Force Tango," a team charged with building the initial design for the U.S. Space Force. Today, Fischer lends his extensive experience in space operations as the VP of Strategic Programs for Intuitive Machines, demonstrating his continued commitment to space exploration and innovation.
