Hilary Rosen Biography
Hilary Rosen is one of the country’s most-respected communications strategists operating at the intersection of media, business and politics and bringing decades of experience to high-profile clients, boardrooms and causes. She is also a sought after on-air political analyst who has worked for CNN, MSNBC and CNBC.
Rosen most recently spent 13 years as Vice Chair and Partner at SKDK, the award winning strategic communications firm. At SKDK, she specialized in public affairs, crisis communications and reputation management for corporate and non-profit clients. Her ability to manage issue campaigns in Washington is profiled in the book “Pennsylvania Avenue: Profiles in Backroom Power” by Wall Street Journal and CNBC reporters Gerald Seib and John Harwood.
Prior to joining SKDK, Rosen served as chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), where she helped drive the music industry’s transition to a digital marketplace, spearheaded efforts with the tech industry for efficient, fair payments systems and was a fierce defender of artists rights. When she left RIAA after 16 years, she helped to launch the Washington, D.C. bureau of the Huffingpost.com and served as its Political Director and Editor-at-Large. She consulted for companies like MTV, BET, Apple and Showtime. Rosen’s work is also driven by her lifelong dedication to social causes and philanthropy.
In 2018, she co-founded the Times Up Legal Defense Fund, a first of its kind organization created to assist survivors of workplace sexual assault and harassment. She is a founder of Rock the Vote and Rap the Vote, Rosen has also long been recognized as one of the nation’s leading advocates for LGBTQ equality. She formerly served as Chair of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights advocacy group. Rosen has been featured on power lists, including Entertainment Weekly’s Annual Power List, The Hollywood Reporter’s Power 50 Women, The Washington Post’s Power 20 and National Journal’s Power Women in Washington.
She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Howard University as a member of the Audit and External Affairs Committees, and LPAC.
