Henry Golding Biography
Henry Golding is a British-Malaysian actor and former television presenter known for his work in film, television, and global entertainment. Before gaining recognition in Hollywood, Golding began his career as a presenter on ESPN, BBC, and Discovery Channel Asia. After working as a hairdresser, he moved back to Malaysia at age 21 to pursue on-camera roles in Kuala Lumpur, hosting a weekly football show for ESPN, "The Travel Show" for BBC, and "Surviving Borneo" for Discovery Channel Asia. Through these programs, Golding highlighted Malaysian culture and traditions, including stories about the ancient Iban tribe, a heritage he honors with a tattoo on his left thigh.
Golding made his feature film debut in "Crazy Rich Asians," portraying Nick Young. The film achieved significant box office success and critical acclaim, becoming the top movie in U.S. and Canadian theaters during its opening weekend. Later, he starred alongside Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in the thriller "A Simple Favor." These consecutive roles established Golding in the film industry and contributed to the ongoing conversation about Asian representation in Hollywood.
He continued to expand his filmography with roles in "Last Christmas" opposite Emilia Clarke, the comedy-thriller "The Gentlemen," and as the lead in "Snake Eyes," a film set in the G.I. Joe universe. Golding has consistently sought to diversify his roles across genres, including romantic comedies, action-adventure, and science fiction.
Golding appeared in "Daniela Forever," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and opened the Platform lineup. In this Madrid-set science fiction romance, he plays Nicolas, a man grieving the loss of his girlfriend who participates in a clinical trial involving lucid dreams. Additional credits include "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," a return as Sean Townsend in "Another Simple Favor," and an appearance as Hang Tuah in "The Old Guard 2." He also had a role in the second season of the Hulu anthology series "Nine Perfect Strangers."
Throughout his career, Golding has addressed the evolving landscape of Asian representation in the film industry. His work spans a range of genres and international productions, contributing to ongoing discussions about diversity in entertainment. Golding's career includes consideration for high-profile roles and demonstrates a commitment to varied and global storytelling in film and television.
