Heidi Hayes Jacobs is an education leader and curriculum expert known for her work in curriculum development, vertical planning, modern assessment design, and strategic planning for schools. Jacobs has focused her career on supporting educators in modernizing classrooms and building responsive, relevant learning environments. Her experience as a classroom teacher at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels in Utah, Massachusetts, and New York provides a practical foundation for her ongoing work in education reform.
Jacobs completed her doctoral studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, supported by a national graduate leadership fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education. She has taught in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University, and is a co-founder of The Hollingworth Center at the same institution. Her connection to Teachers College has positioned her as both a scholar and practitioner in curriculum reform and educational leadership.
Jacobs is the author of more than 11 books widely used by educators. Her publications include "Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Design and Implementation," "Mapping the Big Picture: Integrating Curriculum and Assessment K-12," and "Getting Results with Curriculum Mapping." She edited "Curriculum 21" and co-authored "Curriculum Mapping: Tools and Templates." With Marie Alcock, she co-authored "Bold Moves for Schools: How We Create Remarkable Learning Environments." Her four-book series—"Leading the New Literacies," "Mastering Digital Literacy," "Mastering Media Literacy," and "Mastering Global Literacy"—was published by Solution Tree. Jacobs's curriculum mapping model is implemented in schools worldwide.
Jacobs has collaborated with public and independent schools, state departments of education, and organizations such as the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools, Tri-Association, European Council of International Schools, and the United Nations Committee on Teaching About the UN. She has also worked with the College Board, NBC Sunday Today Show, PBS Teacherline, Discovery Channel, Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Peace Corps, and Disney Company. Her work has been featured in New York Times, Educational Leadership, and on National Public Radio's "Talk of the Nation." Jacobs has served as a program development advisor to Amazon Studios' children's programming division.
Jacobs has received several honors, including the Mediterranean Association of International Schools Award for contributions to international education, the Educational Innovator Award from SINET, and the Par Excellence Award from the University of Utah Young Alumni Board.
