Hanson Biography
Hanson is a pop/rock band formed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by brothers Isaac on guitar, vocals, and piano; Taylor on keyboards, piano, guitar, drums, and vocals and Zac Hanson on drums, piano, guitar, and vocals. They are best known for their 1997 hit song “MMMBop” off their debut album, “Middle of Nowhere,” which earned the trio three Grammy nominations.
The Hanson brothers began by jamming in their garage and independently recorded two albums: “Boomerang” and “Mambo.” Their debut album, “Middle of Nowhere,” appeared in 1997 and the brothers became an instant sensation. Three Grammy Awards followed in 1998 for Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
2000 marked the release of the band's seventh studio album, “This Time Around,” however, Island Def Jam Records were in financial constraints at the time and poorly promoted the album, resulting in low record sales. The band financially supported themselves while on tour that summer and fall of 2000 in an effort to promote their album. Hanson left Def Jam Records shortly thereafter in an effort to have more creative freedom over their music.
The brothers also started up their own record label, 3CG Records, and began to release their albums themselves. 2009 saw the brothers record the record, Shout It Out. In 2013, they released Anthem. The first single was titled "Get the Girl Back," which brought Hanson back to the Top 40.
