Third Eye Blind Biography
Third Eye Blind is a rock band formed in San Francisco in 1993 by frontman Stephan Jenkins and guitarist Kevin Cadogan, later joined by drummer Brad Hargreaves and a revolving cast of members. Their breakthrough came in 1997 with the release of their platinum-selling self‑titled debut album, featuring the infectious hits “Semi‑Charmed Life,” “Jumper,” “How’s It Going to Be,” and “Graduate." Known for pairing upbeat melodies with introspective or darker lyrical themes—taking on issues like drug addiction, suicidal thoughts, and emotional turbulence—the album propelled the band into mainstream success, earning six‑time platinum certification.
Their 1999 follow-up, Blue, continued their chart momentum with singles like “Never Let You Go,” though it also sparked controversy due to its provocative lyrical content and internal band tensions, which ultimately led to Cadogan’s departure. Despite shifts in their lineup, Jenkins and Hargreaves kept Third Eye Blind alive through the 2000s, releasing albums such as Out of the Vein (2003) and Ursa Major (2009), before experiencing a creative resurgence with later works like Dopamine (2015), Screamer (2019), and Our Bande Apart (2021).
