Eugene Goodman is an American United States Capitol Police officer and acting deputy Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate. During the 2021 United States Capitol attack, Goodman diverted rioters from the United States Senate chamber. His actions likely preempted what could have been a violent confrontation.
Goodman is a U.S. Army veteran who later served as the acting Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate from January 20, 2021 to March 2, 2021.
Following the storming of the Capitol, Goodman received many awards including the Congressional Gold Medal. He was also awarded the Distinguished Public Service Award by both the secretary and chief of staff of the Army. In 2021 Goodman became the acting deputy Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate.
