David Banner Biography
David Banner is a Grammy Award-winning rapper, record producer, actor, and activist recognized for his influential role in Southern hip-hop. Banner began his career as part of the duo Crooked Lettaz before pursuing a solo path. His independently released debut album, "Them Firewater Boyz, Vol. 1," sold over 10,000 copies locally, leading to a major label deal with Universal Records. Banner's album "Mississippi: The Album" reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart, with the single "Like a Pimp" featuring Lil Flip gaining national attention.
Banner continued to build his presence in the music industry with albums such as "Certified," which debuted in the Billboard Top Ten, and "The Greatest Story Ever Told," which featured collaborations with Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Akon, and Chris Brown and reached number three on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. His collaborative project with 9th Wonder, "Death of a Pop Star," included appearances by Ludacris, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, and Erykah Badu. As a producer, Banner has contributed to multi-platinum tracks for T.I., Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Nelly, and Trick Daddy. His studio album "The God Box" featured artists such as Cee Lo, Big K.R.I.T., Black Thought, and Trinidad James.
In addition to his music career, Banner has appeared in films including "Black Snake Moan," "The Butler," and "Ride Along," as well as television series such as "Empire," "Saints & Sinners," and "The Family Business: New Orleans." He portrayed Missouri Slim in the crime drama "Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist." Banner is also the founder of A Banner Vision, a multimedia company providing music for commercials, video games, and films for brands such as Pepsi, Gatorade, Paramount Pictures, Marvel, Capcom, and Mercedes-Benz.
Banner's activism includes founding the Heal the Hood Foundation to support communities affected by Hurricane Katrina, raising $500,000 for relief efforts in Mississippi. He received a Visionary Award from the National Black Caucus of State Legislators for his contributions after Hurricane Katrina. Banner has testified before Congress on hip-hop's societal impact and has worked to support education and community development through initiatives such as providing schoolbooks, scholarships, and hosting toy drives. His "The God Box Lecture Series" has toured nationally, focusing on social justice and community empowerment within hip-hop culture.
