Dascha Polanco is a Dominican-American actress and advocate recognized for her work in film, television, and diversity advocacy. Polanco is best known for her role as Dayanara Diaz on the Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black," a performance that earned her multiple Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Before her acting career, Polanco earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hunter College and worked in hospital administration at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx while studying nursing.
